Every month the Ladies Bridge Club tries to do something nautical in our wonderful backyard in Southwest Florida.
On November 8, CMCS members & a photographer from the Naples Daily news met at Ostego Bay Marine Science Center located on San Carlos Island just across the street from Bonita Bill’s.
We started with a movie about the commercial pink shrimp industry, including details of how shrimp boats work.
Next we walked the the shrimp boat docks, and watched them unloading their catch. We walked thru the Ship’s Store, saw how the “Trawl Doors” are built, and the Shrimp Nets are hand sewn.
We had walked thru the Florida Master Naturalist program area and learned about Mangroves and their importance.
We finished up in the museum with the Aquariums & Exhibits.
So happy the following people could join us: Sandy Canning, Janette & Ned Christenson, Wendy Cook, Cathy & Robert Fridel, moi, Katie Klann (she found out about us from our website) photographer from Naples Daily News, Elise Missell, Gay & Patrick O’Keefe, Paul Steinman, Sue Stier, Kathleen & Russell Vance, Paula & Glen Vetter & Rose Young!
Finally – we should mention that the Ostego Bay Foundation also runs a Summer Camp for kids, and that CMCS’s Summerset Regatta proceeds assists the camp with scholarships for underprivileged participants.
