COVID fatigue! Is that a thing? If so, I think I’ve got it. But, as ready as I am for this thing to be over, I think of the Stockdale Paradox:”You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality.” Admiral James B. Stockdale (1923-2005). Highest ranking POW at the Hanoi Hilton in North Vietnam (held 1965-1973).So, I have faith this COVID thing will be defeated in the end. Until that time, we as individuals will need to confront the brutal facts of what we need to do based on reality of our own situation.
Governor DeSantis is reopening Florida in many ways, but there are still limitations and safety guidelines (no groups over 10 people, etc). That said, the governor has a responsibility to get Florida up-and-running – it doesn’t mean we have nothing to worry about. His responsibility is to the state of Florida and WE as individuals need to take responsibility for our own health and safety. The governor is not getting into-the-weeds on whether you or I get COVID19. He’s just trying to make sure we don’t all get sick at the same time and overwhelm the healthcare system!
Where do we go from here? At this point, the City of Cape Coral has extended the closure of the Ball Room to the end of June, so the June Membership meeting will be a ZOOM meeting again.
If you haven’t tried the ZOOM Membership meeting, give it a try We still have our social time from 6:30 to 7:00, and it actually works well! And this month, we’ve got a great presentation, Sandra Canning has prepared another FANTASTIC scuba video of her recent underwater adventure! It’ll be GRAND!!!
So, we’re still dealing with COVID, but let’s stay disciplined to continue to follow the CDC.
