We had a great time at Burnt Store Marina over Easter. There were seven boats on our three day tour. Blown Away, Bridget O’Toole, Buffy, Chase the Clouds, Foxy Lady, Lazy Susan, and Ranger all joined in the festivities over the weekend.
Normally we start out at Pelican Bay for our Easter cruise but kudos to Glenn and Sigrid Diedricksen on Buffy for suggesting we head straight to Burnt Store on Thursday to avoid some possible big winds on Friday. This was a good call as we did have some big winds on Friday and Saturday. Thanks as well to Harbormaster Jason Poet and staff for being accommodating and letting us all come a day early. Burnt Store Marina is now a Safe Harbor Marina and is looking forward to making more improvements in the years to come.
On Thursday, some checked out the marina pool a few docks away. We had happy hour in the “tiki” hut near the transient docks which was reserved for us during our stay. It has party lights, fans and a big grill. After Happy Hour, some had dinner aboard and some at the restaurant. Some walked out to the harbor entrance to watch the sunset.
Friday brought some thunderstorms but also some dry hours. Lots of good conversation and long walks. We all had dinner together at Cass Cay which is the restaurant on site. Dinner was great and we had an excellent server.
Saturday’s weather was delightful. Those storms brought what is probably the last “cold” front of the year. We even needed sweaters on Friday afternoon and Saturday. We had “Hoppy Hour” on Saturday. The Easter Bunny came and hid four dozen eggs for our fearless boaters to find. Sigrid Diedricksen found the golden egg which entitled her to the grand prize of a bottle of Wicked Dolphin rum. Others got candy and small prizes. After that, we had a potluck with all sorts of yummy food. The band at the restaurant played a lot of great oldies.
And then it was Easter. Ranger made breakfast for the boaters and then some headed to Pelican Bay and the rest went home for the remainder of the holiday. We enjoyed a peaceful afternoon and evening on the hook. We saw marsh rabbits every day at Burnt Store so I’m pretty sure the Easter Bunny was making sure we had a good time!
We had a wonderful time and we hope everyone had a Blessed Easter.
