Drawing a line in the sand for both CLEAN WATER and CLEAN ENERGY – both impact our water quality here in Southwest Florida. Community support helped pass SB10, Governor Scott just signed Senate Bill 10 to clean, store and send Lake O discharges south to the Everglades. The Senate must now fully fund this so […]
Steve & Theresa on Lionheart hosted the Points South Cruise. 14 Tractors, Barefeet, Bridget O’Toole and Lionheart headed South. Lionheart went straight to Panther Key on Thursday. The remaining boats headed to Factory Bay at Marco Island on Thursday. Bridget O’Toole hosted a taco fiesta. Then on Friday, the rest of the boats made it […]
Well, once again we have proven that CMCS Members know how to have a good time! The Bloody Mary Brunch was held on May 7 at the CCYC Pavilion on a brilliant breezy day. Carol Pim & family provided the Bloodies with a slew of fabulous accoutrements, and the Liberty Ashore team cobbled together a […]
We had a fine evening for sailing the Jerry Pim Estebel Memorial. It has traditionally been a night race, and as Racing Commodore, I would have been in favor of running the race at night, but somehow it was moved to a 4:00 pm start prior to me being involved. I hope that next year, […]
We had the first of this year’s distance races on Sunday April 30th. The race started just outside of Redfish pass at the north tip of Captiva Island. All of the race boats managed to get up and on the water in time despite a great evening party as part of the San T’Weenie Cruise! […]
This weekend is a favorite of many CMCS cruisers and racers. The cruise starts on Friday and the race is held on Sunday. As with many events, surprises always enter into the mix. Cruise leaders Ian Davis and Elise Missall had full intentions of arriving by boat, but due to an engine problem discovered on […]
Hey Y’all! We just enjoyed a great Grill Night at the April Membership Meeting. We had approximately 50 attendees, and it seemed like a good time was had by all. Thanks to Bill Cook, Barry Long, Mike Ziegler and Tom Papia for keeping a super-hot fire going for the grilling – I know we got […]
Three CMCS boats headed out for secluded week long cruises, totally unbeknownst to each other. Interestingly enough, they all three wound up in the same anchorage – Panther Key! First to arrive was Freestyle, with Glen, Paula, & Annie. They came down from FMB, via stops in Chatney Bay and Smokehouse Bay. A couple hours […]
We had about sixty members come out for our monthly membership meeting and a nautical flea market sponsored by the Ladies’ Bridge Club.
The location is arguably the Society’s most popular cruising destination. The weather was ideal. The beaches were beautiful. Plus, each night we were treated to a serenade of bagpipe and conchs. Here’s the list of those who participated in this annual pilgrimage. Nineteen boats arrived on Friday, or sooner: 14 Tractors, Air Boss, Ambiance, Bridget […]
From our 2016 Summerset Regatta we had approximately $10,000 available to give back to the qualifying Youth Watersports Programs up and down the coast. Since 90% of the participants and sponsorships this past year came from our local area, 90% money goes back to the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. The other 10% was divided up between Naples/Marco Island and Punta […]
We had fourteen boats arrive at Legacy Harbour Marina, located right downtown Fort Myers, where all the action was at for the fabulous Edison Festival of Lights celebration.
So we had another great day for sailing on Saturday Feb. 11. There were 10 boats at the start line with 12 registered. Great news on CALUSA. We had three people join us for skipper/crew training and all were awesome. I will continue this program and make sure other skippers have these names as additions […]
What a great event. Something missing from our racing program is a clubhouse where all of the racers gather to boast and talk strategy, and to enjoy a libation! This event was designed specifically to fix that! First we had a SPECTACULAR day on the water, followed by a TERRIFIC party at the CCYC.
On December 6th the Ladies Bridge Club celebrated their annual Christmas party at Cathy Friedel’s home. We had a great turn out in spite of the snow and icy roads….. 🙂 Nineteen ladies participated and brought a wonderful variety of foods and wines. The Pirate Gift Exchange is a fun and funny activity that we include every […]
The New Year’s Cruise this year went very well. Everyone went wherever they wanted and managed to gather at Fisherman’s Village in time for New Year’s Eve. We arrived at Pelican Harbor on the 26th after spending the holiday at S. Seas. Club boats drifted in and out over the next few days. Miller Time came […]
Thank you to EVERYONE who helped with the “CURRENTS” fence art at Art Fest Fort Myers. I so appreciate all the donations of CD’c, fabric, help in cutting strips and the Ladies Bridge Club members who worked on the installation at Art Fest Ft Myers. The 6′ x 60′ fence panels are installed at the […]
For years this cruise has promoted the worthy goal of literacy among sailors and it tied into Bob Macomber’s Book “Bacchanalia”. Well Bob’s next book won’t be out until next spring. (save the date of April 1, 2017). Bob decided he needs a book launch as an excuse to party. Silly Bob. We decided we […]
The First Halloween Cruise to Legacy Harbour Marina was frightfully fantastic! This was also the first time that Julie and Barry Long had the privilege to co-lead a cruise (with Steve Romaine – mister “Summerset” aka Popeye – and Cindy Carlino – the classic masters of ceremonies!). It was indeed spooky! We had ghosts and […]
With our thoughts on the communities in Haiti, Cuba and the east- ern coast of Florida, Hurricane Matthew was a big concern for the on-the-water racing planned for Summerset. The forecast during the week looked great for Saturday and Sunday racing but dicey for the boats coming from out of town on Friday. The decision […]
CMCS’s fifth annual “Meet Us in Margaritaville” cruise began on August 19th at three (hey, it’s 5 o’clock some- where!) Cruisers were welcomed with souvenir margarita glasses filled with that immortal concoction. Friday’s arrivals included Jolly Mon, Sol Adventure, Sunshine, Chase the Clouds, Jazzy, Mental Floss, Sail La Vie, Jack B, Salty Dog, and I […]
There were 42 attendees at the July 30, 2016 CMCS An- nual Picnic held at the Cape Coral Yacht Club Pavilion from 12:00 noon to 3:30 p.m. CMCS’ Liberty Ashore provided hamburgers, hotdogs, buns and all of the traditional trimmings (lettuce, tomato, onions, etc.). Attendees were asked to bring either an appetizer, side dish, salad, […]
The Innie-Outie Cruise began on July 2nd at the Cape Coral Yacht Basin. Boats arrived during the day and cruisers got together at 5 PM to enjoy appetizers, drinks, and shoot the breeze. Steve Roake provided frozen con- coctions for those so inclined. American Trivia showered cruisers with fabulous prizes! The following boats were in […]
As usual, this popular weekend was a smashing success! We had to motor North to Pelican Bay on Friday, but found the sand spit boasting a lovely breeze. Happy hour was wonderful with the cooler temps than usually found this time of year. This event was “committee” driven, so special thanks to those who participated: […]
