Danger Island Cruise

May 22 - May 25

Free

Cruise Leaders: Kim Brown & Judy Anderson

CAUTION – You are about to enter the Mystical Waters of “DANGER ISLAND”, located on the Sand Spit at the entrance to Pelican Bay.

Activities will be planned for whatever “social distancing” will allow. If possible, we will have a happy hour on Friday night, Saturday games at 10 AM with happy hour in the evening followed by grilling and pot luck. These activities will happen on the spit.

WATCH YOUR EMAIL for UPDATES:

  1. Our leaders have decided that CMCS members can be just as flexible as the multi-layered pandemic regulators. So, they have agreed to plan this cruise, and they will keep us informed as whether the cruise is happening, how we may want to modify our activities.

  2. Speaking of Leaders: (A.) Kim Brown & Judy Anderson have agreed to serve as our 2020 Danger Island Cruise Leaders!!! (B.) Bob & Bev Duff have agreed to be in charge of games. (C.) Jean Blessing – Rear Commodore of Cruising is assisting.

  3. Register with the “Danger Island Form” (see below), and we will email updates as the occur.

  4. The Chowder Cook-Off has been moved to November 17th Membership Meeting.

  5. By May 22nd we are hoping people can gather on a beach.

  6. Since the purpose of a COVID-19 mask is to protect the other guy, plan to bring your pandemic PPE.

  7. This year it may be most important to stay tuned to VHF 72 while on the cruise.

  8. Fly your CMCS Burgee! One of our pastimes is to dinghy or paddle about Pelican Bay and socialize.  We also like all members to get to know each other, and the burgees make that feasible.

Entry into Pelican Bay (See the Pelican Bay Chart) is not particularly difficult, but caution is advised. Don’t cut corners unless you’re familiar with the anchorage! If this is your first time, CMCS boats all monitor channel 72, so, if you need help with directions, hail one of our members.

Planned Agenda:

  • NOTE: all events for the entire weekend will be held on the Sand Spit, not Dog Beach.

    Danger Island!!!

  • Arrive on Friday: come in time to attend a Happy Hour that will be held on the Danger Island Sand Spit at 5:00 pm. Bring an appetizer to share. Dinner is on your own, unless the weather cooperates and a group wishes to have dinner on the beach.

  • Saturday Morning: at 10:00 am, on the sand spit, the Prestigious Black-Tie Croquet Tournament will begin.  You must wear a tie, string, rope, scarf or anything black around your neck. This is the #1 rule to participate in the event. You cannot play w/o it. You will likely want beach chairs and some form of shade.

  • Saturday Evening: at 5:00 pm – a happy hour in the evening on the Sand Spit. We encourage you to bring your grill and food for an evening dinner on the beach.

  • Sunday: today is your day to relax and unwind. Cayo Costa has a beautiful beach on the gulf side. You can dinghy in to the dock and catch the tram over to the Gulf. There is a $2.00 fee for Cayo Costa State Park. A dinghy ride to Cabbage Key for lunch is another option, or just have some R & R on your boat.

  • Sunday Evening: at 5:00 pm a Happy Hour and snacks on the Danger Island Sand Spit. Again, we encourage grilling  and dinner on the beach.

  • Monday Morning: weigh anchor for home, off to another adventure, or just stick around and enjoy one of the very best anchorages in the U.S.
