Mardi Gras Chili Cook-off!
WOW! The Mardi Gras Chili Gods provided us with the perfect day for the Cook-off! Warm enough that we didn’t have to wear sweaters (gasp-what are those?), but nice and breezy enough in the CCYC Pavilion so that we could enjoy the fruits of the 15 Chili Chefs without breaking a sweat!!
It was a great event to start up 2018!
Many thanks to all the innovative Chefs: Bev & Bob Duff, Kim & July Brown, Sandy Canning, Deedee Cheek, Theresa Roake, Sue Stier, Gordan Coffman, Beth Johnson, Diane Fowler & Roger Wood, Wayne Canning & Theresa Scott, Roseanne Hoffman, Gail & Houston Jones, Carolyn Preston, Christy & Jason Pim (and their beautiful masked daughters), and Rich & Jolyn Kuhn.
We had 75+ voters at the party, and they enjoyed a myriad of wonderful chili flavors! And, combined with the sides and desserts that the non-chili-cooks contributed, we all went home happily and contentedly full!
AND THE WINNERS WERE:
BEST TRADITIONAL CHILI: Carolyn Preston
HOTTEST CHILI: Gordon Coffman (Tie with Beth Johnson, winner drawn from a hat!)
BEST NEW ORLEANS STYLE: Kristi & Jason Pim
BEST DECORATIONS: Sandy Canning
The lucky winners earned some New Orleans specialties: Rum (of course!), Pat O’Brien’s Hurricane Mix, and a fabulous hurricane glass!
We had some fantastic helpers: Kathleen & Russell Vance and Tom Papia set up all the tables and hung decorations, Tim and Sue Stier got the audio system working and lent a hand to set-up, Glen and Paula Vetter were official greeters and bean counters (very serious job!), and Deedee Cheek and many others pitched in for clean-up! Thanks to you all! We said “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler” and they did!!
