Racing Trophies & Awards

Racing Fleet Champions

CMCS currently competes in four Western Florida PHRF classes.

    • Muli-Hull
    • Spinnaker
    • Non-Spinnacker
    • True Cruising

Boats are scored in each class using the formula as follows:

    • First Place    Number of Boats plus 1
    • Second Place    Number of Boats plus 0
    • Third Place    Number of Boats minus 1
    • Fourth Place    Number of Boats minus 2
    • Boats are scored, skippers are not.

This progression continues for the entire number boats the race.

    • Individual races are dual scored; regattas are scored as registered.
    • DNS will not score.
    • DNF will score 1 point
    • A boat that registers to race and must drop out perform committee will be scored points equal to a second place finish.
    • Three (3) boats must start in a class. If less than 3 boats start, they will another class of the same type. If no other classes exist, they will not be scored.

Cruising & Exploration Trophy

The cruising and exploration trophy is a perpetual trophy honoring the skipper of the boat that has logged the most cruising points.
Each cruise is scored giving one point for each mile traveled from Marker 101, plus a 50 point bonus. Only those cruises completed by the first week of December are considered in the calculations.

    • A minimum of 8 sanctioned cruise events must be attended.
    • A non-sanctioned cruise event will be scored if 5 member boats attend, stay together throughout the cruise, the event is 110t part of another club’s scheduled activities, and the organizers announce the event by publishing it in the Chowder Chatter three weeks prior to the event.
    • The points awarded will be limited to 500 per cruise. It is the responsibility of the organizers to keep an account of the participating boats and the destinations reached. This must be reported to the Rear Commodore of Cruising.
    • Boats are scored, skippers are not.

 

Bomgardner Trophy

By requiring participation in Racing, Cruising, and Race/Cruise events, the Bomgardner Trophy honors the most “well rounded” skipper.  It is a perpetual trophy, donated by Bud Bomgardner.

Racing Events

    • All races are scored as follows:
    • Participation – 6 points
    • 3rd Place – 8 points
    • 2nd Place – 10 points
    • 1st Place – 12 points
    • Minimum to qualify: 6 races
    • DNS does not count as participation
    • DNF counts as participation
    • Three (3) boats must start in a class. If less than 3 boats start, they will be scored with another class of the same type. If no other classes exist, they will not be scored. This is up to the Race Committee’s discretion.
    • A boat that registers for a race and must drop out to perform committee boat duties will be scored 10 points.
    • Boats are scored, skippers are not.

Cruising Events

    • EPOL – 17 Points
    • Pelican Bay – 5 Points per day
    • Memorial Day – 25 Points
    • Holiday Cruise – 5 Points per day
    • Where The Wind Blows – 5 Points per Day
    • Halloween Cruise – 17 Points
    • Heading North Cruise – 5 Points per Day
    • Thanksgiving Cruise – 5 Points per Day
    • Sanibel Bight – 5 Points/Day

Race/Cruise Events

    • Kayusa Cup – 20 Points
    • San’Tweenie – 20 Points
    • Summerset Regatta-Day One – 30 Points
    • Summerset Regatta-Day Two – 30 Points
    • Minimum to qualify: 2 events; and you must stay overnight on your boat
    • Minimum to qualify: 3 events
