Friday, September 14th, 7 cruisers made their way in calm conditions to South Seas Island Resort for the Kayusa Cup Race/South Seas Cruise. Sea Change, AirBoss, Windstar, Ranger, Lazy Susan, and Salty Soul all arrived in time to enjoy a couple of hours at the pool after receiving our free Rum Punch as we checked in at the marina office. South Seas allowed us to use the air conditioned Captain’s Lounge for cocktail hour which was greatly appreciated in the heat. I Sheet You Knot made their arrival after dark which is becoming their standard.
Saturday morning Gopher Baroque timed their arrival just as the only rain shower of the weekend arrived. It didn’t seem to bother the Pim’s daughters as they danced on deck in the rain. Calusa arrived shortly after noon. The beach was deserted due to the water issues so the pool proved to be the popular place. That said, the red tide had little effect on any of us. No dead fish and we even had many manatees and a few dolphins in the marina. Once again we had the cool Captain’s Lounge for cocktails. The crowd favorite AirBoss Especial rum was finished off that evening.
Sunday most of the boats left with Calusa and Salty Soul meeting the racers at the start line for the race home. AirBoss and Ranger stayed another night while I Sheet You Knot got a late check out to enjoy the pool another day. One last small cocktail hour was enjoyed on Ranger.
South Seas is a terrific resort and marina with clean facilities and friendly workers. We really enjoyed the free use of the Captain’s Lounge in the heat.
