We had a great crowd of over 90 people for the Society social hour, plus tonight we had a great presentation by Steve Colgate , world renowned sailor, instructor, promoter of sailing, and founder of the world famous Offshore Sailing School. His presentation reviewed his trips to Cuba – currently a very appropriate topic. Steve’s first trip to Cuba was in 1955, at the age of 19, to crew on a 51-foot sailboat in a transatlantic race from Cuba to Spain. By far the largest vessel he had ever raced at that point. He explained how his 1955 trip and race was the inspiration that led him to a lifetime of sailing, teaching, and inspiring others.
Steve’s second trip to Cuba was in 2014. for which he had many stories and comparisons to 1955 as to the current conditions but also the beautiful attitudes of the Cuban people.
It should be noted that Steve and Doris have been members and great supporters of CMCS for over a decade.
