Our racing schedule brought us another buoy regatta in November, the Festival of the Islands regatta, held on November 7. Turnout was surprisingly light given the beautiful conditions. Many thanks to Ned Christiansen on PASSION III, serving as committee boat, and to Dave Dumas who ran the races superbly as PRO. We had 10 knots of breeze at the start, although a big wind shift had the nonspinnaker boats tacking to the finish. The winds went light which then allowed time to grab lunch and reset the marks. We got in two additional races in beautiful 7-10 knot breezes. At the end of the day, Eric Milbrandt took first in spinnaker class aboard Full Tilt, with 2 firsts and a second, NURDLE was second, somehow winning a race followed by 2 second place finishes, and Diane Fowler and crew on Windy City rounded out the class. In non-spinnaker, John Finnegan sailing Miss Cathleen took 3 firsts, followed by Gary Blessing’s Jazzy. Despite several other boats being on the scratch sheet, Tom Horner on Bentley was the only competitor in True Cruising and completed all 3 races. Brock Johnson hosted the after race party which was quite pleasant.
