The First Halloween Cruise to Legacy Harbour Marina was frightfully fantastic!
This was also the first time that Julie and Barry Long had the privilege to co-lead a cruise (with Steve Romaine – mister “Summerset” aka Popeye – and Cindy Carlino – the classic masters of ceremonies!).
It was indeed spooky! We had ghosts and goblins ready to haunt the Chickee bar – a few bad backs (and later, bad batteries) slowed down some of our ghouls, but a scary good time was had by all!
The weather was as windy as that which howls through a haunted house – but most everyone made it into their slips and ready to sip on some witch’s brew by Friday night! We had fang-smacking pumpkin appetizers and pumpkin beer – what else can a sailor need in the way of tricks and treats?
On Saturday, the phantom fashion show began – overall the “werewolves” (aka men) stole the show while the “witches” (aka women) watched and snapped photos!
There was a potluck spread that would raise even spooks from the dead! Popeye the Sailor (Steve Romaine) and the Beautiful Wench (Judy Anderson) snagged first prizes in the costume contest! They barely beat out the hairiest contestant“Mojo”.
Best beer award goes to “Good Ass Beer” courtesy of the Nudists on Strike – Glen and Paula Vetter! Ironically, this Rhinelander beer is from Salty Soul’s skipper Jim Slager’s hometown…what does that tell you?
The “Name that Tune” contest was provided by Tim and Sue Stier — the goblins in attendance had an amazing memory of the oldies and goodies and it seemed past Commodore Diane ruled the night!
As the witching hour drew near, it was clear that “Trust Me” ran away with best decorated boat! Other boats in the running were Freestyle, Kestrel II, Lazy Susan, Salty Soul, Blank Check, and Gone with the Wind.
A hair-raising time was had by all! Respookfully – Julie, Barry, Cindy and Steve
