Meet Calusa Waterkeeper Captain Codty Pierce
Calusa Waterkeeper Captain Codty Pierce is a passionate environmental advocate dedicated to protecting Florida's coastal waters. Inspired by childhood adventures, Codty leads efforts to preserve the Caloosahatchee River and more than 1000 sq. miles of local Southwest Florida estuaries.
As Waterkeeper, Codty monitors water quality, investigates pollution, and engages communities in sustainable practices. He collaborates with local authorities and organizations to promote policies ensuring clean water for future generations.
Before becoming Waterkeeper, Codty worked with reptiles, wetland restoration, and native landscaping, also running a fishing guide service in Lee County. His deep community ties inspire his commitment to preserving natural resources. Codty emphasizes respecting the environment's rich cultural history, saying, “We must honor the past to protect the future.”
Driven by a love for Florida’s unique flora and fauna, Codty continues to expand his expertise through research and outreach. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and fostering environmental education.
